The 2016 WRX title has a new competitor in the form of the new Ken Block Ford partnership. For fans of Hoonigan and the Gymkhana series of drift videos, you’ll have to check out Ken Block hoonage at the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2016. Ford Performance is teaming up with Ken Block to take on the entire WRC circuit, which is great news for rally fans.
Rally racing is nothing new for Ken Block of course, having participated in the Global RallyCross Championship the past few years. The Hoonigan team has been very successful in the circuit, winning several events in the famous Ford Fiesta ST. This is of course a Fiesta you’ve seen before in many of the awe inspiring drift videos from the Hoonigan drifter.
Block is returning to the WRC where he hasn’t had as much success, something that the new Ken Block Ford partnership aims to change. Of course if you are in North America you’re going to have be on top of broadcast schedules. With the WRC circuit heading to Portugal, Sweden, France, Latvia, Belgium, Great Britain, Norway, and Germany, there’s not much chance of watching any WRC event live.
This is a bit of a setback for American rally circuits, especially the Global RallyCross series. But Ken Block will be taking on the very best in the world at rally cross, so it can’t be all bad.
Of course when we aren’t serenaded with Gymkhama mastery videos put out by Hoonigan Racing, we’ll be revisiting the Hoonicorn, Block’s awesome AWD Mustang. Ken will be looking to change his fortunes from 2014, when he last competed in the WRC.
Could Block’s Ford Fiesta ST be the primary machine he races with? Or is there something special being cooked up by the Hoonigan gang and Ford Performance? We’ll just have to wait and see, although there are rumors behind a new platform for Ken Block to race with.
