Third generation Camaro stereo wiring – 1982–1992

One of the first double DIN setups found in the Camaro, the third generation Chevy is very easy to install aftermarket stereos into.

Wiring is simplier and the speaker wires are easily identified.

Most stereo installs will not need a mounting kit to fit into the center console of the old school Camaro.

Installing a single DIN stereo into this generation of Camaro is easy to do.

The front Camaro speakers are 4″ x 6″ and are mounted into the dashboard.

Rear mounted Camaro speakers measure 6″ x 9″ and are mounted into the rear side panels. If you are installing a pop up single DIN stereo or one with a slide out screen, you would be best served with a install kit.

Fourth generation Camaro stereo wiring – 1993–2002

The F body Chevy Camaro enjoyed a long run but had several changes through this year range. The first interior style matched the 1993-1997 Camaro that featured the LT1 engine.

1994 Chevy Camaro Stereo Wiring DiagramThis year range used a single DIN setup before the LS1 version of the F-Body cam equipped with the Bose speaker system.

Luckily there’s not much you need to install into this generation of Camaro. However if you are planning on installing an aftermarket stereo with a motorized face, you may need a spacer install kit to properly mount it. The climate controls are directly above the stereo area, so without this install kit you might be asking for trouble.

Fifth generation Camaro stereo wiring – 2010-2015

Sadly the Camaro was discontinued after the 2002 year until it’s triumphant return in 2010. Because of the redesign and the incorporation of navigation from the factory, installing a stereo into this year range of Camaro can be best when you go with a wiring harness.

The Camaro speaker wires will vary depending on what came with your Chevy from the factory. If you are using the typical center stereo mount as shown to the left, you’ll need to tap these wires.

When installing an aftermarket stereo into this year range of Chevy Camaro, you WILL need an install kit. This will involve you removing the complete center console section, and installing the replacement stereo mounting brackets and the replacement dashboard fascia.

  1. i hace a camaro 2013 i am trying to up grade my stereo to the mylink touch screen . i have xm and Constar the frameless mirror . please help i have purchases a mylink w 4 seniors and rear view camera , what wires due i tap or run

  2. I have a 2013 camaro, my stereo slowly went out over the past year. I have seen several YouTube videos saying to cut the white wire behind the radio to fix the issue. Do you recommend this?

    • Hi Maro, thanks for reading.

This is a common “white wire” fix and while there are some instances of this working, it’s not a guarantee. I would recommend buying a spade / butt end connector and splicing it into your white wire for a safe test of this solution for your Camaro stereo.

      hope that helps

  3. Hey could u tell us what does this white wire on the radio harness runs to? Everyone cuts it if the factory radio starts shorting out. It had to go to something right?

  4. My stereo is cutting out, rumor says to cut the white wire. What would I be cutting? Not confident with this solution

      • Hi R, I also have a 2014 camaro with my radio acting like its possessed, its popping very loudly sometimes every few seconds. Did you end up cutting the white wire and also have you had any other electrical issues?

    • Hi R, thanks for reading.

As you can see, the “white wire Camaro stereo fix” is very common. You can try this method, however I would recommend a spade and butt end connector so that you can restore connectivity if this doesn’t fix the issue.

      Thanks for commenting!

  5. Hey, you’ve only listed the + center speaker wire colour. What is the colour of the – center speaker wire for the 6th generation?
    Thanks.
