Today I’ll be showing you the Ford Bronco stereo wiring for the year range of 1983 to 1996. When using our wiring guide, you’ll need basic tools to help you secure the connections to your Bronco stereo.

Third gen Bronco Stereo Wiring Guide 1980–1986

Not always easy to mount newer stereos into older dashboards, but with some careful planning it’s a breeze. Depending on the type of Bronco stereo you are installing, you may need an install kit.

These kits allow you to bolt into the factory Bronco brackets, and properly mount your stereo. Bronco Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Light Green
Ford Stereo Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow/Black
Bronco Stereo Ground Wire: Black / White stripe
Ford Radio Illumination Wire: Blue/Brown stripe

Wiring up power to your Ford Bronco stereo is simple and easy to do. When connecting the power wires, make sure to keep safety in mind. If you do not have these stereo wires available, you can always tee into the Ford ignition switch instead.

Your front Ford Bronco speakers are mounted into the doors, making upgrades a snap. Unfortunately, you may need mounting solutions if you want to upgrade to the front Bronco speakers. Because the factory Bronco speakers are 3.5 up front, this may be inadequate for your project.

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Green

In the rear of your Ford truck, the factory speakers are 6″ x 8″, which means you can accommodate 6″ x 9″ speakers with some careful mounting.

After the 1986 model year factory radio changed slightly. These changes also included renovated exterior design from the model years of 1986 and 1987. After the 1987 year, the Ford Bronco is also known as the Bronco II.

Fourth gen Bronco Stereo Wiring Guide 1987–1991

Changes to the popular Ford Bronco did nothing to slow it down during these years. Easily one of the golden ages of Ford trucks, the Bronco underwent several changes both cosmetic and functional. Despite that however, upgrading your Ford Bronco stereo isn’t hard at all.

Bronco Radio Ground Wire: Red before 3/1988 – Black for Ford Broncos built after this date.

The front Ford Bronco speakers are 5″ x 7″, which can be another challenge. Much like the 3rd generation Ford pickup, you should look into creative mounting solutions to get the stereo upgrade done.

In back thankfully the Blue Oval went with a traditional 6″ x 9″ form factor. This makes your Ford Bronco stereo project a bit easier, because you won’t have to scramble for a mount kit. The Ford Bronco rear speakers are found in the side panels, which will have to be removed for any Ford speaker upgrade.
