Watch this incredible teaser video featuring the Hennessey Camaro taking down the monumental challenge of going 200+ MPH. The quest was conquered by this red demon on February 25, becoming the first Camaro to do so.
Piloted by Brian Smith the Hennessey Camaro reached 202 MPH at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds in Uvalde, Texas. Powered by their HPE750 upgrade package, the folks at Hennessey built this incredible 2016 Chevy Camaro based on the all new LT1 engine.
According to the spec sheet on this incredible build, the HPE750 cranks up the all new 2016 Camaro to over 750 horsepower and 640 ft lbs of torque. Centered around a TVS2300 supercharger system, HPE750 supercharged upgraded Camaros have turned in a 10.7 sec. @ 129 mph quarter mile during testing.
The incredible Hennessey Camaro can also rocket from 0-60 in just a tick over 3 seconds and it’s official top speed is 202 MPH. Hennessey worked over the LT1 Camaro cylinder heads with extensive CNC porting and a custom competition valve job which allowed them to really increase air flow.
Long tube 1.75 inch race headers terminate in custom high flow catalytic converters, making this Camaro even more impressive. One can only imagine how much more is possible by deleting the catalytic converters and upping the relatively modest boost levels of 7 PSI.
Although the official specifications to the Hennessey Camaro on their website don’t list any nitrous, you can definitely see that the 200+ MPH Camaro used some.
It remains to be seen how much faster the Hennessey Camaro could really go, all things considered. After all this is the same driver that drove the Venom Viper to reach a jaw dropping 270 MPH. You can tell that the driver Brian Smith wasn’t totally satisfied with the 200 MPH mark in the new 2016 Camaro.
Chevy is hoping that the new changes to the Camaro help close the sizable gap between it and Ford. While the new changes to the 2016 Camaro have certainly helped, there’s still quite a bit of distance between Chevy and Ford muscle cars.
