One of the premier names in electric hypercars, everyone knows how cool the Tesla Model S really is. Simply looking at the Tesla supercar is proof of just how cool and incredible the machine is, but how track ready is it really? While performance is not in question, the fact is that many Model S owners aren’t typically weekend track warriors.
While that point may be under debate, what isn’t up for review is the incredible concept behind the Plaid Model S. This all-new model includes an overhaul of Tesla’s powertrain. While the current powertrain uses two electric motors, Tesla upped its game by increasing this to three total electric motors in the Plaid Model S.
Luckily for us, Tesla just released some footage of the new Tesla Model S “Plaid” in action. Taking over Laguna Seca and recording an incredible 1:36.555 lap, set a new record for any four-door sedan.
Laguna Seca – Tesla Model S Plaid in Action
Tesla’s advanced R&D testing of the Model S Plaid powertrain and chassis prototype has been incredibly fruitful, and one that’s amazing to watch through this in-car video. There is quite a buzz around the all-new Tesla Plaid trim, so let’s take a look at what goes into this amazing hypercar.
New Powertrain – Not only will the new Plaid Type S include three electric motors instead of two, but the powertrain will also carry over to the Model X and the next-gen Roadster. Ready to battle Porsche’s E-Mission, the all-new Ford GT, or the Lotus 130, Tesla has sufficiently raised the bar for the upcoming hypercar battle.
More Performance – Let’s face it, the fact that the Plaid Tesla S beat the four-door record by a full second this early in the development process is a serious sign of good things to come. Whether you are a Tesla fan or not, the fact that the Model S means business is not up for debate.
