Honda increased the Honda Civic Type R price once more today, breaking the $37,000 dollar mark. Despite the fact that the arrival of the Type R has been met with much fanfare thus far, could Honda be rethinking their financial stake in this venture? The price for the new Type R is now $37,230 which also includes a hefty destination tariff.

On the surface, this isn’t a huge increase, but considering the multiple price increases thus far it adds up quickly. Remember that news of the new Honda Civic Type R broke, it arrived with an extremely reasonable price tag of $34,775.

Honda, however, seems content in cranking up this model even before we’ve seen any special models or factory modified packages. What could this news mean for Honda fans around the world?

Honda Civic Type R price increase – How much is too much?

Many enthusiasts may already have forgotten the $1,000 dollar increase earlier this year, but it’s hard to ignore. By adding slight tweaks to the infotainment system, Honda somehow felt it was justified to crank up the price of their flagship Civic.

While these things are certainly not an insignificant upgrade, do they really warrant the $610 dollar increase? Those may argue that compared to the Civic Type R hatchback competitors, the increase is completely justified. But is it really?

How will the all-new Civic Type R fare against a stacked field of hatchbacks? Only time will tell. What is certain is that Honda is looking to maximize the presence of the Type R, and I for one wouldn’t want to bet against them.
