Honda has been hard at work on the alternative fuel front, announcing the Honda Clarity platform which will be making it’s debut later this year. The full size sedan has been released in Japan already, the model has also been lauded in print and reviews as well. What’s more the alternative fuel cell technology developed by Honda is a rousing success so far in Japan.

Powered by Honda’s own hydrogen fuel cell, the Honda Clarity is set for release in California first. With other notable models like the Toyota Mirai, California seems to be the testing bed of choice for hydrogen infrastructure. As water is the only emission that the Honda Clarity will ever generate, it’s a new day for Honda with this latest announcement.

Honda has big plans for the Clarity, and also plans on releasing a plug-in hybrid version as well as an all electric model. The new Honda Clarity hybrid will literally be able to plug it into the wall. The current estimated electric only range will be 240 miles and it will sell in all 50 states.

Although the names for the hybrid trim and all electric models of the Honda Clarity have not yet been announced, Honda should be releasing the Honda Clarity specifications soon. With the advent of the new Clarity, the feasibility of a fully operational hydrogen network and infrastructure increases.

What’s more the all electric sedan looks like it’s taking firm aim at Tesla. In fact Honda announced that the new Honda Clarity EV will be the best priced five-passenger midsize electric vehicle on the market. I wonder what Elon Musk and the Model 3 have to say about that?

What do you think about the all new Clarity from Honda? What would you like to see from the all electric version which should be released in 2017? Do you think that Honda has a legitimate chance at unseating Tesla? Leave us a comment below and let us know!
