Long a staple of high-performance Toyota excellence, news of the new Toyota Supra TRD Concept has surfaced. Officially named the Toyota GR Supra Performance Line Concept TRD, the supercar is due to be released on February 9th. The Japanese auto tuner has been mum about the rumored Toyota Supra TRD Concept specifications, but if the teaser image looks plenty promising.

Toyota finally took the wraps off the 5th generation Supra. Rumors and teasers reach all the way back to the Toyota FT-1. True to that concept car’s lines, the Toyota Supra TRD Concept looks every bit the part. Built through the partnership with BMW, the Supra and Z4 will always be joined at the hip. Could the TRD Supra match the BMW’s output of 382 horsepower?

What we can be sure of is that the TRD concept will be much more than just the average concept car aesthetic updates. When first released the FT-1 was a remarkable piece of engineering. Active aerodynamic elements and enhanced suspension components are easy choices to transfer to the
Toyota Supra TRD Concept.

Based on an inline single turbo configuration, the new Supra may not house the famous 2JZ engine but this engine is no slouch. Low 4 second 0-60 runs showcase the power potential of the turbocharged Supra, and that’s before any real modification.

With increased intake and exhaust flow modifications, additional tuning, it’s easy to project some real gains with very little modification. It’s about time that the definition of BPU Supra is redefined, and the new Supra is just the car to do it.

Will the new Supra dethrone the GTR as the king of the imports? Only time will tell.

Aggressive, stylish and back after 22 years, the King is back and has ushered a new era of import performance. For anything related to the new Supra, make sure to follow us at My Pro Street and get all the latest in news, updates and How To articles.
