A BMW airbag issue completely unrelated to the Takata recall pushed BMW AG to stop selling their flagship temporarily. The potential air bag deployment issue has BMW recalling the 7 Series. Public safety has been a hot button topic after a teen in Texas lost her life. The tragic event represented the 10th US death caused by a faulty Takata airbag, and it prompted BMW to err on the side of caution.

According to BMW the concerns about the deployment caused them to put a hold on all new sales as a precautionary measure. With roughly 47,000 units sold so far, BMW will be issuing a recall shortly to rectify the problem. A spokesman from BMW stated that there were no known cases of faulty deployments of the BMW airbag issue at this time. The affected number of 7 series sedans with the defective airbags topped out at 26,000 units produced before Dec. 11, 2015.

Continental AG is the company named as the supplier of these faulty units. The BMW airbag issue compiles further safety concerns with the next generation of safety equipment. BMW filed the recall with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Thursday morning. According to NHTSA officials the number of vehicles affected in the US will be in the low 6,000’s.

Of course this can be alarming to BMW owners, who are already having to go through the issues with the Takata recall. There’s already over 800,000 vehicles with the faulty Takata PSDI-5 driver-side front air bag, which is part of the biggest automotive recall in history. How big is this airbag recall? Audi, BMW and Volkswagen alone have 1.7 million cars alone to recall and repair.

If you own a late model BMW, don’t risk the safety of your passengers or loved ones. Take action and avoid the BMW airbag issue affecting you. Check with the recall website at BMW or record your BMW VIN number and check with safercar.gov.
