I love new car tech as much as the next person. Touchscreens? Cool. Instant torque? Even better. A truck that can out-accelerate a sports car while silently judging your life choices? Sign me up.

For some Rivian R1T owners, that moment is arriving in the form of repair estimates that look less like invoices and more like student loan statements.

Am I Saying Don’t Buy One? No.

Let’s not get dramatic.

The Rivian R1T is one of the coolest trucks on the road right now. It does things traditional trucks can’t, and it looks good doing them.

But it’s not a “shrug it off and keep going” kind of vehicle when it comes to body damage.

It’s more of a:

“Let’s carefully document this incident for insurance”
type of truck.

Just remember—you didn’t buy a basic truck.
