Fresh off the heels of Monterey Car Week, Acura dropped news that the 2022 Integra would return. As one of the most iconic 90s tuner platforms, the new Integra has a huge following. Despite the namesake being a bit long in the tooth, the all-new Integra definitely packs quite a few new surprises. After 20 years, the 2022 Integra promises to peak tuner interest and brings back yet another flashback sports car from the 90s.
As one of the most recognizable tuner vehicles of all time, the 2022 Integra is all the buzz among Honda enthusiasts. While Acura / Honda has been fairly tight-lipped about the details around the new Acura, here’s what we do know about the 2022 Integra below.
2022 Integra News
Acura definitely took the market by surprise, earlier last week in announcing the new Integra. Utilizing a wall of drones to spell out “Integra” in the sky, Monterey Car Week 2021 was definitely memorable for all VTEC-heads out there. First making it’s debut in 1986, could Acura infuse the new Integra with electric motors like their NSX supercar? In short, with the return of the Acura NSX, what could the all-new 2022 Integra pack under the hood?
With the success of the new Honda Civic Type R, could the new Integra integrate the turbocharged VTEC platform from their Honda cousins? Time will tell.
What engine is in the new Integra?
Acura definitely isn’t letting the cat out of the bag early, but it’s hard to see a situation where the Civic wouldn’t provide some valuable input. Honda / Acura has long been known for crossing platforms, which is what makes Honda engine swaps so incredibly easy and popular.
The powertrain from the Honda Civic could be an easy choice for the new Integra. However, with all the hype around AWD Honda’s could the 2022 Integra be all-wheel-drive? There could definitely be a scenario where the top model Integra goes AWD, while lower trims are based on the Civic powertrain. What do you think?
New Integra Specifications
While we don’t have any official specifications at this time, the rumor mill is defintely not quiet. Talk of a turbocharged four cylinder paired to electric motors? Utilize the NSX technology and combine the hybrid electric motors into the tried and true Integra namesake? Sounds good to me!
What do you think about the all-new Integra? While it’s not due out until the middle of next year sometime, do you think that this car will reawaken the Acura tuners around the world? Or will it be stuffed with so much technology that it’s just another remade old-school car that just misses the mark?
