On the heels of Carlos Ghosn being charged with financial misconduct, Nissan pulled their all new long range Leaf E-plus from the LA Auto Show, according to the WSJ. The 2019 Leaf was to include a trim aptly named the E-plus, with a purported range of 225 miles. Equipped with an all new 60-kWh battery pack, there is still a ton of buzz around the 2019 Nissan Leaf E-plus.
Range is the true name of the game when it comes to electric vehicles, and Nissan aims to deliver. The improved range of the E-plus increases the driving distance by nearly 50%. But Nissan fans will have to wait until January 2019 before they can get their hands on it.
All About the Nissan Leaf E-plus
Nissan has enjoyed a decent amount of success regarding the Leaf. While the current Leaf has a range of just 151 miles, it is about to get a huge upgrade. Production Leaf models come equipped with a 40-kWh battery, but how much is the new 2019 Leaf E-Plus going to cost?
According to most experts and reports, the new Leaf is going to check in around $5,500 more than the 40-kWh version. That puts the price tag around $36,385, barring any EV tax credits.
Most automotive journalists were chomping at the bit to peek a gander at the new Leaf. However the recent developments around Nissan’s chairman Carlos Ghosn, left Nissan with no choice. Instead of showing the 2019 Leaf E-plus, they showed a new Maxima sedan and the Murano.
“The official announcement regarding details of the 2019 Nissan Leaf with additional performance capabilities is postponed to a later date, to ensure that this important product unveiling could receive the coverage it merits.”
Nissan head of operations was arrested on November 19th on allegations of financial fraud. Reports claim that the former chairman had been falsely reporting how much he was being paid. Renault took the initiative to appoint a replacement while Ghosn is in custody. This didn’t stop Nissan or Mitsubishi from severing ties however, and it leaves much of the future up in the air.
