APR turned over every stone in the build of their APR Golf R for the 2018 SEMA Show. From the factory the Golf R is no slouch, but for the biggest aftermarket show on Earth you need more than that. Lucky for us, the APR Golf R is every bit the build worthy of being part of the SEMA Show.

How worthy you ask? How about a total output of 536 horsepower from the hatch. This is a huge increase in horsepower from the factory, which speaks to just what APR was able to achieve.

Inside the APR Golf R

At the center of the powerhouse Golf is an upgrade turbo kit from APR. Fitting the 2.0 liter turbo charged engine is a twin-scroll Borg Warner. This turbo pumps out increased boost, which is routed through an upgraded intercooler system into a carbon fiber intake manifold.

The APR Golf R was built to maximize power while keeping turbo lag to a minimum. We’d say that APR has achieved the peak horsepower mark, and there’s 474 foot lbs of torque that would agree.

Reports from APR put the conservative quarter mile time at the sub-10 second level. Coupled with the exterior makeover of this vehicle, the APR Golf R really turned heads at SEMA.  APR’s President Mitch Williams spoke about the APR Golf RLMS recently.

“And the RLMS isn’t just a showpiece, as it will be hauled around the country for track days. APR’s extensive racing history has helped us to develop the Golf RLMS. We wanted to create a Stage III track car that can dominate circuits around the country. With 536 horsepower and all wheel drive, we can’t wait to turn some laps.”

Indeed. And what really can you say about the combination of livery and aero? What makes the APR Golf so unique looking you ask? It’s a custom built aero body kit that has a heavy TCR influence.

The wide fenders are exaggerated, allowing the wider wheels to tuck nicely under the fenderwells. Downforce is increased all around, giving the APR Golf R the ultimate look and aggressive handling expected from a SEMA vehicle.
