The Tesla Model 3 has long been anticipated as the car that could very well change it all. Just as Tesla did with the introduction of the Model X and the Model S, their electric car could very well change how we view cars all together. With an entry level price of $35,000 dollars, the Model 3 is a car designed for everybody.
Range of the electric Model 3 peaks out at 200 miles and depending on what state you live in, incentives could lower the already fairly affordable sales price. Tesla founder Elon Musk compares the Model 3 as the competitor to the BMW 3 series and the Audi A4. Originally called the Model E, the new electric sedan has already been a huge hit.
According to Tesla Motors Inc, the pre-orders of the electric sedan have topped over 250,000 orders in just 36 hours. Considering the Model 3 isn’t even going to be available for at least another 18 months and possibly more, this is an incredible sign of success for Tesla.
How much will Tesla make from the Model 3?
Just this past Friday, Elon Musk tweeted that the average sale pre-order price of the Tesla Model 3 will be $42,000 dollars. This brings in the initial haul to the electric company startup to an estimated $10.6 billion dollars. They are going to need it to expand on their current Fremont, California plant which is slated to produce upwards of 500,000 Model 3’s by 2020.
In fact many analysts such a Brian Johnson from Barclays has predicted that Tesla will haul in between 250,000-300,000 orders for the car by the end of June. With this considerable amount of success is it any surprise to wonder if the Model 3 marks the beginning of the end for combustion vehicles as we know it?
Manufacturers are already scrambling to play catch up to Tesla, and the edge is still markedly in their favor. With superior production capacity and reduced lithium ion costs, Tesla’s superior technology is still light years ahead of the likes of GM and Toyota.
