Second generation (1982–1987)
The second gen Prelude arrived late in 1982 on a whole new chassis and completely remade suspension. Sporting a A18A twin carbureted engine, the peak horsepower for this lively Prelude was 110 horsepower. One of the earliest 2.0 DOHC B20s can be found in this early generation Honda, and the factory stereo is very easy to modify and adapt to.

The revolutionary all wheel steering system found in the previous model of Prelude became electronic in the fourth gen, and the first 2.2 liter also spring into life. The F22A1 boasted a power output of 125 horsepower at 5200 RPM. This was one of the very best and first Preludes to feature Honda’s variable cam timing mechanism known as VTEC.
Other notable changes for the fourth gen Prelude marked the end of popup lights, moving to a very modern looking front facing headlight design.

Fifth generation (1996–2001)
The last and final iteration of the Prelude was undoubtedly the heaviest, although for some reason the quarter mile performance of this model is very similar to the fourth gen, despite being over 300 lbs heavier.
Advanced all wheel steering featured in the Type SH was a revolutionary step forward, but the added heft of this model played a huge role in the Prelude’s demise. It’s still a celebrated classic however, and very easy to modify or upgrade your stereo in.
