Our coverage of the SEMA 2014 auto show continues this week with our Scion coverage, which certainly does not lack for the FR-S. The rear wheel drive coupe has definitely cooled quite a bit after taking the automotive world by storm at launch, as sales have tailed off a tad but if SEMA is any clue, the ZN6 is as strong as ever.
In reality however, if there’s any manufacturer best equipped to challenge Ford’s now three year death grip on SEMA, it would be Scion and the FR-S. Scion’s been at the forefront of the aftermarket industry, which has played a large role in how popular the FR-S has become.
This year at the SEMA 2014 auto show, Scion was well represented as you will see this week during our extensive SEMA coverage week. But we’ll be focusing on the handful of powerful cars built specifically for the Scion Tuner Challenge.
Speedhunters FR-S
Speedhunters kicks off our list of SEMA Scions, with their purpose built FR-S for the Scion Tuner Challenge. This beautiful ZN6 looks fantastic all the way down to the Nissan vintage side view mirrors.
Taking elements from Toyota’s TRD history, this FR-S blended just the right amount of Rocket Bunny components with the TRD color scheme and capturing the pro touring theme, this FR-S is a winner. GT Channel / MotoiQ FR-S
Built by GT Channel and our friends at MotoiQ this FR-S was built for function over form with the very best components that could possibly be used.
Watch GT Channel install new rigid collars in their FR-S in the video below. This FR-S is a bit more tame compared to some of the wild machines at the SEMA 2014 auto show, but it’s easily one of the more drivable ones.

Super Street FR-S
By now everyone has seen this radical departure from the standard “slap this turbo kit on the motor” and go. It made you do a double take in the way your brain realizes you saw something, but you weren’t quite sure. See it for yourself if you don’t believe us.
Super Street went the extra mile and then some in this wild converted FR-S which incorporates ITB’s, giving the engine a strange look.
It took quite some time for us to look at the engine bay before the alternator looked quite right.
Pictures just don’t do this car any justice, the amount of detail and attention to finish shows through in person.
It took us quite some time to walk away from this FR-S, and we happen to love the rim combination.
Cartel Customs FR-S
Wow, did this thing knock our socks off at the SEMA show. Turbocharged using a custom Greddy kit and built by Jeremy Lookofsky of Californian firm Cartel Customs, you can find the usual mix of modification parts on it. But that’s not what caught our attention, can you guess what it was?
The targa top looks like Scion built it from the factory and the color combination is stunning. Unfortunately the hood was closed on the FR-S when we were at the show, but there’s no doubting the work done on this car.

Honorable Mentions
We spent quite a bit of time with the Riley Hawk xB, with it’s 70’s theme, shag headliner and fishbowl window. There was also the Slayer tC that wasn’t quite our cup of tea, and looked out of place at SEMA 2014 to be honest with you.
The rim choice and sizing looked a little too Midwestern for our liking, and there was a lot that didn’t quite work on this car. For more images and pictures of the Scions at SEMA 2014, check our slideshow below.
