Turbocharged small displacement motors are nothing new to the world of high tech performance. And it’s always been an age-old struggle between adding boost and the resulting blow by and excessive crankcase pressures.

Excessive oil blow by, oily intake couplers or turbo outlets are all side effects of adding boost whether by way of turbo or supercharger. Without proper maintenance this issue can become dangerous and highly detrimental to your engine’s ability to be it’s best and stay running.

Clogged intercooler cores, intake plenums and piping can add to your engine’s sludge by gumming up your valvetrain and impacting oil pressure. Not only does this harm your engine by raising temperatures and decreasing oil pressure, it can cause detonation and premature engine failure.

Some people opt for an oil catch can to help keep their engine bay and cylinder head clean and clear. Exhaust scavenging and exhaust valves are not everyday options for those wanting to daily drive their turbocharged or supercharged vehicles.

While it’s not a new problem, it’s always something that the true innovators and creative companies always try to solve. Perrin truly has taken the simple concept of the catch can and revolutionized how it’s used and how it may just be the ‘must-buy’ for just about any level of true enthusiast.

Introduced late in 2012, the Perrin Oil Air Separator has been in high demand and we’ve had a chance to see firsthand how it keeps everything clean. Be sure to check out our Project Pro Street SRT-4 we’ll be adding the Perrin unit to, as we’ll be adding mileage updates.

Not just meant as a can to hold your blowby oil, the Perrin Oil Separator actually lives up to it’s namesake by separating the oil from the air. Incorporating blowby passages and baffles that force the incoming crankcase charge into a vortex, Perrin’s Oil Separator channels the oil apart from the air and water vapor.

Perrin takes it even further with a oil scavenge system which allow you to drain back the oil that has been filtered from your crankcase. This means no need to clean your catch can every 60,000 miles and no more hassle of leaky messes that can dirty your engine bay.

Taking this product over the top is the new heat exchanger that helps remove heat from the device and near engine temperature.

Coolant lines run to the bottom of the oil separator making this a complete solution to excessive crankcase blowby and pressure.

All of which brings you a cleaner running engine, which in turn leads to cleaner intake valves and intercooler cores. Lower air intake temperatures and more reliable oil pressure means you get to enjoy your car longer and safer at the limit.

The Perrin Oil Separator comes in black and red and although it’s designed for use in the Subaru WRX or STI, we’ve used them on different turbo vehicles including our RB25DET 240SX.

Perrin has plans for additional models later this year, so stay tuned to get all the latest on the best Perrin products on the market today.
