Automakers have long searched for new and interesting ways to draw the public to their products and vehicles, and Nissan just may have redefined how people shop for their cars online. Partnering with Google Maps and Google Street View, Nissan has rolled out The Detour, a customized test drive which enables you the user to take the car of your choice to whatever destination you desire!
In an effort to roll out and market the new 2014 Nissan Rogue, the Detour will navigate familiar terrain and coupled with some digital effects and music make the virtual experience a pleasing one. This program is interactive, allowing users to swipe up and across to move the vehicle in a multitude of ways.
For tablet and smartphone users, one swipe of the finger launches the Rogue into mid-air, all based on the user’s current location. To explore further, the site offers some pre-programmed routes around familiar U.S. destinations such as Chicago, Seattle, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and South Florida.
Want to give the Nissan Rogue a test drive of your own? Try it by clicking here, but we would recommend trying the Google Map driven program on shorter distances as a longer drive seems to complicate matters.
Google is continuing it’s pattern of aggressive integration and these developments can only speak of what’s to come, or more importantly come from the Google Open Alliance. Apple and Google seem destined to battle it out in the new frontier of automotive infotainment, and we have our money on Google’s Android to win out in the end.
