It’s been a banner year for Formula Drift as the series and the sport had it’s most successful year in attendance. From setting records at the Final Round in Irwindale to crowning it’s first Euro chassis champion, the arrow is definitely pointing up for Formula Drift.
As if to put a cap on this tremendous year of growth for Formula Drift, they have recently announced that they will be partnering up with MSC for a three years in Japan. President and co-founder of Formula DRIFT Jim Liaw recently shared these thoughts on the expansion.
“It’s very exciting to be taking our brand to the birthplace of drifting with MSC. MSC is a reputable company that has been involved in drifting for many years. We feel that this is a great way to expand our brand as it fits with our global aspirations,”
Not mentioned in his comments was anything regarding the sure to be upcoming showdown between Formula Drift and D1, the elephant in the room as it were.
There will be two competitions held as a prelude to the 2015 Formula Drift Japan Championship, which will also include a Formula Drift Asian round. The culmination of the events will lead to the 2015/2016 Formula Drift season that will be a minimum of a four round championship as announced by Formula Drift.
Japanese motorsport legends Nobuteru Taniguchi and Max Orido have committed to judging the Formula Drift events. And the three-year merger has already broken new ground on the campaign that promises to put the sport of drifting into never done before territory for a country as rich in racing as Japan.
