DTC P0507 – How To Replace a VQ35 Throttle Body

The DTC P0507 can be difficult to deal with, especially if you’ve already tried checking for an intake leak without much success. If you have this OBDII trouble code and have already gone through our How To Test Idle Air Control guide on the OBDII trouble code P0507. Today we’ll be showing you how to replace a VQ35 throttle body.

We’ve been dealing with a few lingering intermittent P0507 issues in some of our project and customer cars, and today we’re showing you how to replace a throttle body in a 2005 Infiniti G35.

When you are replacing your throttle body, make sure that you have tested for air intake leaks, and have checked your PCV valve. Check our How To Test Idle Control guide for more details. Before you begin our How To Replace a VQ35 Throttle Body DIY Guide, please make sure to check all the other culprits that could possibly be causing your P0507 OBDII trouble code.

Begin our How To Replace a VQ35 Throttle Body DIY article by opening your hood, and undoing the plastic clips that hold your intake ducting to the front of your bumper.

Slide off the intake duct from your primary air box, and then remove the plastic clips that hold your POWER DUCT in place.

Remove your POWER DUCT housing and set it to the side.

Next unclip the metal bands that hold your airbox together, if your factory intake is already loosened from the huge plastic silencer box, you can skip this step.

Undo the 10mm bolts that hold your air box to the frame, located to the right of your VQ35 MAF.

Now take your 10mm socket and remove the two 10mm nuts and the 10mm bolts that hold the plastic engine cover in place.

Slide off the engine cover and set to the side.

There’s another 10mm bolt that holds the intake tract to your valve cover, remove to loosen.

Now disconnect your VQ35DE mass air flow sensor (MAF) unit.

Loosen the worm clamps that hold the intake elbow to your VQ35 throttle body.

Disconnect the main vacuum line that runs to the intermediary plastic intake pipe on your VQ35DE engine.

You can now slide the entire VQ intake system back and up to free it from your car. Once it’s out of the car, you should be able to see your throttle body and throttle body harness connector.

Unplug your VQ35 throttle body by unclipping the harness connector.

Now let’s get to work on replacing your VQ35 throttle body, and fixing your OBDII DTC P0507. You can opt to use a hex wrench of varying sizes, or a metric 5 hex. You can also use a T30 safety hex, which we’ll be using to undo the bolts on your VQ35 throttle body.

Remove your throttle body carefully, and do not lose the throttle body gasket. Take note of the gasket orientation, as the VQ35 throttle body gasket has three tabs that mount opposite of the electronic throttle control.

Once you have your throttle body removed, clean the surface of your intake manifold and prep it for your new throttle body. The Infiniti part number for this replacement VQ35 throttle body is part number 16119-8J103 and it can also be found under 161198J103.

Do not use gasket maker on the VQ throttle body gasket as you re-install your new unit. Once you have the new unit installed, you may or may not need to undergo relearn procedures to calibrate your throttle.
