P0363 Code: Misfire Detected, Fueling Disabled

The P0363 OBD-II trouble code means the powertrain control module detected an engine misfire severe enough to disable fuel delivery to the affected cylinder.

Turning off the injector prevents unburned fuel from entering the exhaust and overheating the catalytic converter. P0363 is therefore usually a secondary or protective code—not the original reason the engine started misfiring.

Ignition-coil codes identify electrical faults within individual coil circuits. Examples include P0351 for Coil A through P0362 for Coil L.

P0363 does not specifically identify an ignition problem. A failed coil can cause the original misfire, but so can a defective injector, vacuum leak or mechanical failure.

When P0363 appears with an ignition-coil circuit code, repair the circuit code first. For example, P0359 identifies an Ignition Coil I circuit malfunction, while P0363 describes the PCM’s response to the resulting misfire.
