Mitsubishi Releases Last JDM Evolution

The day has finally arrived for Mitsubishi, as details of the last JDM Evolution have been released. As the last production Mitsubishi Evolution, it’s been dubbed Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Edition by the diamond star automaker. Saying good-bye to the world’s best AWD system has been a tough pill to swallow for many Mitsubishi fans in the USA.

The tenth generation Evolution has been with us since the 2008 model year, and this means that the all new aluminum 4B11T will enjoy a short run as a production engine. A far cry from the long run that the venerable 4G63 enjoyed, with over 20 years of turbocharged four cylinder glory it’s one of our favorite engines of all time.

The JDM Evolution X Final Edition is restricted to the Japanese market only, and it will still have the same 291 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque output as previous models. Looks like the hopes of the Final Edition JDM Evolution receiving a FQ300 treatment were all for nothing.

Limited to just 1000 units, each JDM Evolution Final Edition will come with a numbered plate ala the Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, black leather Recaro sport seats, with special red stitching.

Filling the wheel wells are the familiar 18 inch lightweight racing BBS rims, and upgraded coilovers at each corner keep the JDM Final Edition Evo planted through the turns. Fans of the Mitsubishi Evolution may feel a bit cheated, because there’s not much that sets the Final Edition apart from a normal Evolution X GSR.

Mated to the same five-speed transmission and boost level, one of the only features that makes the Final Edition is the sodium filled exhaust valves, and upgraded Bilstein suspension. Still for anyone in Japan, the JDM Evolution gives you a chance to own the last model year of this incredible rally proven sedan.

There hasn’t been any announcements to the Evolution name, but rumors have surfaced around an electric all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain. With many other manufacturers opting for electric motors in their sports cars, one can only wonder how long before we get an Evolution that we can plug into the wall?
