If the age old adage that “the customer is always right” applies to the best car brands in the United States, Acura may need to work on it’s image. The ACSI Customer Satisfaction Report is a national publication that ranks car brands based on consumer feedback. In fact the American Customer Satisfaction Index is the only national cross-industry measure of customer satisfaction in the United States.

Compiled over tens of thousands of users per brand, this report is a solid indication of the best car brands for the past year. The customer satisfaction report for 2016 was just released, and in a stunning turn of events, Acura came in dead last for car manufacturers. The American Customer Satisfaction Index is a ranking of automobile brands published each and every year. This ranking takes several different customer satisfaction ratings into account, giving you an accurate read on how well automakers are doing. With a large sample size and plenty of data to back it up, these are the best car brands for the 2016 calendar year.

Looking over some of the largest car brands on this list, you'll notice that many of them ranked quite well on a 100 point scale. The ACSI is a comprehensive ranking of that's widely recognized as the leading resource for the best car brands in the United States. Taking a tumble from the 2nd highest in customer satisfaction in 2015, Acura checks in dead last on our best car brands of 2016 countdown. Not just the lowest scoring Japanese brand in the US, Acura checked in with an overall American Customer Satisfaction Index score of just 76. This represents a 8 percent tumble from the 2015 score of 83. The Acura NSX might not even garner enough excitement to save this car brand from a disgraceful showing in 2016.

This car manufacturer report is based on results over 10 different economic sectors, giving you a good range of consumers. Because this report is built on poll results by people from all walks of life, it’s a fair indication that Acura needs to work on improving consumer relations. Scoring this low on a national survey is just not indicative of Acura’s overall build quality however.

Some of the other notable entries include a strong surge from Ford, as well as the South Korean car makers. Interestingly enough, several Japanese auto makers fell short of the ACSI median this year. Alarming? perhaps not but with such car brands like Mitsubishi struggling to hold on, it’s definitely not an optimistic time for Japanese car brands.
