Following the cues from Honda’s Type R, Acura will be bringing back the Type S badge in style. Headlining the revival is this Acura Type S Concept that looks every bit the part. Performance has been the center of Type S badging and the new concept looks to build upon this legacy.

Wrapped in Double Apex Blue Pearl, the Japanese automaker has been mum about possible performance upgrades. However, what we can see in the Type S is a handful of appearance tweaks.

Inside the Acura Type S Concept

While Acura hasn’t released any official performance numbers, it’s fair to say this isn’t just another Honda. What we do know is that the Acura Type S concept is bigger and badder in many ways. The Type S concept features 21-inch wheels at each corner, wrapped in 285 profile tires.

Four-piston Brembos peek out from each rim, with aggressive styling and vents at the center of the front fascia. And unlike the turbocharged VTEC Honda Civic Type R, the venting and grille are actually functional in the Type S.

Acura claims there will be two variations of the production model in the next 2 years. One will be the base TLX, with what could possibly follow as the RDX Type S.

According to Acura; “The Type S Concept sets the stage for re-introducing Type S performance variants to the Acura line-up after a decade hiatus, and will heavily influence the character of the upcoming, second-generation TLX Type S.”

Building on the front of the Type S, Acura reconfigured the LED headlights to truly unlock a unique look. Borrowing a look from the Acura NSX, the new jewel-eye LED system looks extremely cool.

In the rear, the Type S Concept also changed up their taillight assembly and aerodynamics significantly. While this doesn’t guarantee an upgrade in performance or engine potential, it’s certainly appealing to the eye.
