Whether you are ready for it or not the new Ghostbusters movie will be released soon. And while most purists and fans of the movie series would just as soon pass on the new gender bending reboot, there’s no doubting the coolness factor to the Ecto-1. In fact, the Ecto-1 is still one of the coolest cars in movie history. Featured in this Ghostbusters Ecto 1 build video, there’s a lot for fans of the movie franchise to enjoy.
The new Ecto 1 is still a Cadillac and it’s still a hearse, so the new Ghostbusters isn’t changing everything. To match the new cast and storyline however, the new Ghostbusters Ecto 1 build has a lot of new features as well. Some of these changes and upgrades are easy to see in the video featurette above, while some of the other details are harder to see.
The original Ecto-1 was the classic 1959 Cadillac Ambulance, otherwise known as the Miller-Meteor. The Ghostbusters reboot will feature a 1982 Cadillac Deville that’s been re-purposed as a renovated hearse. The similarities between the old and new Ghostbusters Ecto 1 go beyond the fact that the original was meant to transport the living to help, where the new rebooted Ghostbusters Ecto 1 build is meant to transport the dead.
That’s not the only way in which the new Ghostbusters reboot changes the Ecto-1 however. Whereas the original Ecto 1 was bought by Dr. Ray Stantz who was played by Dan Aykroyd, the new movie will be slightly different. The new Ghostbusters Ecto 1 build started out as a Deville purchased from the uncle of Patty Tolan – Leslie Jones’ character.
You can check out more behind this all new Ghostbusters Ecto 1 build in this video featurette above. The new rebooted Ghostbusters movie will open on July 15, and it’s already taken quite a beating online and through various reaction videos and posts.
