Upgrading your stereo or replacing your Honda Accord radio is a lot easier than many people might think. Whether you’re a professional installer, a shadetree mechanic or just a audiophile that drives a Honda Accord, our how to install a Honda Accord radio DIY guide can help you. We’ll be showing you the exact wiring stereo pinout for your Honda, as well as showing you how to remove your Honda Accord stereo.
Today’s test vehicle is a 1999 Honda Accord SE with a 2.2 liter F22 VTEC engine in it. This Honda Accord still has the factory stereo, and we’ll be upgrading to an aftermarket unit and showing you how to get the wiring job done.
How To Remove a Honda Accord Radio
Before you learn how to install a Honda Accord radio, you’ve got to learn how to remove one. Begin by either removing your shift knob or the head of your automatic shift lever. If your Honda Accord is a manual, simply twist your shift knob to remove it.
If your Accord is equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the screws on either side of the shifter.
When you have both sides of the shifter screws taken out, you can slide off your automatic shift lever.
You’ll be left with a weird looking shifter, shown above. Now take your phillips and unscrew these two lower screws that hold the lower radio trim in place.
You may or may not have to remove your center console for this job. Most of the time we just remove it to make our life easier. To remove your Honda Accord center console, remove the screws inside the console as well as the ones directly behind the front seats.
Once these screws have been removed, go ahead and slide off your center console.
Now you should be able to remove the screws that hold the upper trim in place to your Honda Accord radio. These screws must be removed in order to remove the front radio faceplate.
Now for the trickiest part of our how to install a Honda Accord radio Guide, removing the face plate to the stereo. Grab just under your clock area and with the mounting screws removed, you should be able to wiggle it free. Use a panel popper or spatula if this part is extra tricky.
Once the face is removed, you can pull out your factory Honda Accord stereo by simply undoing the screws on the face plate. Once your Honda Accord stereo has been removed, you’ll see a few connectors including your antenna.
How To Wire a Honda Accord Radio
Now that you’ve got the stock unit taken out, all that’s left to our DIY guide is to learn how to wire a Honda Accord radio. We’ll briefly go over the Honda Accord radio wiring guide shown below to touch on a few important points.
When wiring in your Honda Accord radio or aftermarket tuner, navigation or stereo, always disconnect the negative terminal on your battery to prevent any accidents.
