Our Project LS1 S13 came equipped with control arms that must have been dug up from the Dead Sea. While we do have plenty of arms to choose from, we’ve opted for a set of DNA upper arms with the sole intention of replacing the hemi joints and bushings.
We’ll be upgrading the end joints and hemi joints with a tried and true set of custom hemi joints from SteinJager. We became dealers with the company Steinjager a year ago, and their complete lineup of joints and suspension pieces have been tested on off road heavy duty trucks and vehicles.
These products include spherical rod ends, push-pull cables, parachute cables, throttle cables, shift cables, thread bungs, a-arms, ball joints, bump steer linkages, camber arms, clevises, control arms, four link and three link suspensions, frame supports, j-bars, k-members, lift kits, lowering kits, panhard bars, radius rods, rubber boots, polyurethane bushings, fasteners, strut tower braces, sub frame connectors, sway bars, swing arms, throttle rods, torque arms, track arms, track bars, track locators, traction bars, trailing arms, tube kits, wheelie bars, wish bone kits and much much more!
Here is our obligatory release of liability, that says if you are not ready or do not feel confident you can do this job, please stop and take it to an experienced ASE mechanic that can.
First raise the back of the vehicle and properly secure it with jackstands and a jack if you do not have access to an two post automotive lift. To complete this job for your S13 Rear Upper Arm you will need nothing more than a few 17mm and 19mm sockets and ratchets.
Loosen the lower 19mm bolt that secures the back shock in place, but do not remove.
Move on to the upper arm and undo the bolt that connects the top of your rear wheel assembly.
After this bolt is removed, you can take off the eccentric bolt that connects the upper arm to your subframe and slide the arm down and off your shock.
Before doing this however, it’s a good idea to mark where the eccentric bolt lined up on your subframe so that you can get your tires close to their original mark. Once its free of the lower shock perch, you can now set these to the side for sale later, or just dump them.
Next move onto your DNA / Ebay arms and disassemble the hemi joints and locking nuts. If you are inclined to do so, now would be a nice time to spray them a color of your choice.
We’ll be replacing all the hardware in this S13 upper arm kit with heavy duty units from Steinjager, part numbers D0159015 and D1090511 will complete the kit.
Take your stock arms and adjust the length of your DNA control arms to get your camber similar to before you removed your upper arm.
Now put the fully assembled DNA S13 upper control arm in place by sliding yor arm in over your rear shock and sending the eccentric bolt through the subframe side first. Torque this bolt to specification and then reconnect the upper bolt and tighten it down.
You have now completed the installation of your DNA Rear Upper Control Arms for your S13 Nissan 240SX. Make sure you take the vehicle to a alignment shop to get your car’s tires pointed and dialed in the right way.
