How To Install Brake Pads on a Integra GSR

Today we’ll be installing a Centric StopTech Brake pad kit on our 1998 Acura Integra GSR, part number 309.06170. These Stoptech brake pads are an excellent choice for enthusiasts, racers and commuter cars alike with a very high stopping rate and low dust compounds, this is a top notch choice for many people.

You should always check the condition of your brakes at 10,000 to 20,000 mile intervals, which may vary depending on the type of driving you do and how often you are in stop and go traffic. When your brake pads have worn down and are making scraping noises or pulsating through your pedal assembly when applying your brakes, it may be time to replace them.

Let’s begin by jacking up the vehicle on a flat surface after you crack open your lug nuts, make sure to secure the vehicle with jackstands while you are working on the car.

Now remove your wheels and take this time to check out your pads and your rotors for any cracking or glazing.

Now reach behind the brake assembly and rotor and undo the 2 17mm bolts that hold the brake caliper assembly on, as well as the 10mm bolt that holds the brake line onto the spindle.

Now with the caliper removed, you can slide on the new brake rotor which is in this case our Centric Power Slot slotted rotors.

Swing the bridge of the caliper up and away to allow you access to the brake pads. Make sure to keep clear of any brake dust and you may want to consider wearing a mask.

Here you can see the brake pad sliding out. Make sure you remove it with the backing plate, or shim.

Here is the stock brake pad on the other side. Remove this also.

Remove all the pads for your corner and prep the new pads by applying any anti squeak that may or may not have come with your pads. Here is a comparison shot of the stock pads and new Centric versions.

Now slide in the new Centric pad along with the shims and hardware you removed from your stock unit.

Once you have your pads slid into place, use a hand press or a wrench to open the piston of your caliper. Failing that, you can elect to open your bleeder nipple on your caliper, but that will require a full bleed of your hydraulic braking system.

Once you have put everything back in reverse you are now done! Enjoy your new pads!
