2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee Makes 600 HP Without a Hemi

The 2027 Charger Super Bee raises Hurricane inline-six output to 600 horsepower and adds track-focused suspension, tires and Brembo brakes.

The 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee is officially back, and Dodge has given it something more substantial than heritage graphics and a conveniently placed badge.

Under the hood is a 600-horsepower version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane inline-six. Dodge also upgraded the turbochargers, intercooler, cooling system, suspension, tires and brakes, creating the most powerful combustion-powered Charger of the current generation.

No, it doesn’t have a Hemi.

It does have larger Garrett turbos, all-wheel drive and a claimed 11.8-second quarter-mile. That should make the grieving process slightly more manageable.

A 600-horsepower Hurricane inline-six

The standard Charger Scat Pack already produces 550 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque from its high-output Hurricane engine. The Super Bee adds another 50 horsepower without increasing peak torque.

Dodge did considerably more than upload a more aggressive calibration and call everyone into the marketing department.

The Super Bee replaces the Scat Pack’s twin 54-mm Garrett turbochargers with larger 58-mm units. According to Dodge’s figures reported by Road & Track, the new turbos flow approximately 7.5% more air.

That supporting hardware matters. Making additional power for a brief acceleration run is relatively easy. Keeping that power available after repeated laps or quarter-mile passes requires adequate airflow, stable intake temperatures and enough cooling capacity to prevent the ECU from pulling power.

Dodge appears to understand the distinction.

The additional 50 horsepower also shows that the Hurricane engine has room above the standard high-output calibration. The factory has now pushed the 3.0-liter inline-six to 200 horsepower per liter while retaining production-car drivability and emissions compliance.

Whether tuners can safely extract considerably more power remains to be seen, but larger factory turbochargers are rarely interpreted as a request to leave everything alone.

How fast is the 2027 Charger Super Bee?

Dodge claims the Charger Super Bee can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds.

Those figures represent modest improvements over the 550-hp Scat Pack, which Dodge rates at 3.9 seconds to 60 mph and 12.2 seconds through the quarter-mile. The Super Bee’s advantage should become more noticeable at higher speeds, where the larger turbochargers and increased airflow can do more work.

All-wheel drive helps the Charger put its power down from a stop, while the TorqueFlite 880RE eight-speed automatic handles shifting duties. There is no manual transmission, presumably because Dodge already decided that losing the Hemi would provide enough internet discussion for one car.

The Super Bee also receives dedicated Drag and Track driving modes. Each mode changes the relevant engine, transmission, suspension and stability-control settings for its intended environment.

Drag mode prioritizes launching and straight-line acceleration. Track mode prepares the car for sustained cornering and braking, where heat management and chassis response become more important than generating one impressive time slip.

Dodge upgraded more than the engine

Adding 50 horsepower to a car that already approaches 5,000 pounds would not accomplish much if the rest of the chassis remained untouched.

The Super Bee receives new dual-valve Continuous Damping Control adaptive dampers and extensive changes to its springs, bushings and stabilizer bar.

Compared with lesser Charger models, Dodge increased:

These changes should reduce body movement, sharpen steering response and address understeer. The stiffer front bushings are particularly notable because they can improve how quickly the front axle responds to steering inputs under load.

The suspension is still adaptive, allowing Dodge to provide different damping behavior for street, drag-strip and road-course use. That is important in a Charger, which remains a large road car rather than a stripped track special with license plates.

Serious tires and 16-inch Brembo brakes

Every 2027 Charger Super Bee rides on 20-by-11-inch wheels wrapped in 305/35ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 summer tires.

That is a substantial tire package, but the Charger provides a substantial amount of automobile for those tires to manage.

Behind the wheels are 16-inch brake rotors with six-piston Brembo calipers at the front and four-piston calipers at the rear. Dodge says the system provides 27% more brake-pad area than the standard setup and twice the fade resistance of the previous SRT Charger.

Brake-fade resistance may be more important than the rotor diameter printed in the brochure. A heavy, fast car can convert an impressive amount of speed into heat, and a braking system that works once is considerably less useful than one that continues working after several hard stops.

The larger rotors, additional pad area, performance tires and revised cooling should make the Super Bee far better prepared for track use than a standard Scat Pack.

The Super Bee receives its own aero and data recorder

Dodge revised the front and rear bodywork to improve cooling and aerodynamics. The Super Bee also receives model-specific graphics, badging and aggressively bolstered cloth seats.

One of its most useful additions is the Cosworth-developed Drive Experience Recorder, or DxR.

The system records vehicle and track information so drivers can review laps, braking points and other performance data. It follows the same basic idea as Chevrolet’s Performance Data Recorder: give owners useful information instead of expecting them to improve through enthusiasm and tire consumption alone.

The recorder should also document exactly what happened before someone tells the service advisor that the car was “just driving normally.”

Is the Super Bee better than the Charger Scat Pack?

On paper, the Super Bee is meaningfully better equipped than the regular Sixpack Scat Pack.

The differences extend beyond its 50-horsepower advantage:

The unanswered question is price.

Dodge has not announced Super Bee pricing or production volume. The regular 2027 Charger Scat Pack starts at $54,995 before applicable fees, while the better-equipped Scat Pack Plus starts at $59,990.

A Super Bee premium is inevitable. The size of that premium will determine whether this is the smart Charger for buyers who want the complete performance package or another limited model that wanders uncomfortably close to more powerful alternatives.

But can a Super Bee work without a Hemi?

The Super Bee name began on the Dodge Coronet in 1968 and reached the Charger in 1971. Previous versions relied on V8 power, including the 2023 Last Call Super Bee built around the 6.4-liter Hemi.

That makes the new inline-six controversial before anyone drives it.

The Hurricane cannot duplicate the sound, simplicity or character of a naturally aspirated Hemi. Six cylinders, two turbochargers and computer-controlled all-wheel drive deliver a different experience from a large-displacement V8 sending power toward the rear tires.

That does not make the new car slow or mechanically uninteresting.

At 600 horsepower, the Super Bee outpowers every naturally aspirated production Hemi Charger that came before it. It is also quicker than the old V8 Super Bee and carries far more substantial cooling, suspension and braking hardware.

Enthusiasts do not have to pretend the inline-six sounds like a Hemi. Dodge should not pretend that either. The better argument is that the new Super Bee uses its own engine honestly and pushes the Hurricane platform further than any previous Charger.

That is a much stronger case than simply placing an old badge on a standard trim.

Is the 2027 Charger Super Bee worth waiting for?

The Super Bee appears to be the first current-generation gasoline Charger engineered as a complete track-capable package.

It has more power, larger turbochargers, additional cooling, adaptive dampers, stiffer suspension components, serious summer tires, larger brakes and onboard performance recording. Those are meaningful upgrades that should improve the entire car instead of merely strengthening its brochure.

Pricing, production numbers, curb weight and final availability still need confirmation. Independent testing will also determine whether the larger turbochargers introduce additional lag and whether the chassis changes can overcome the Charger’s considerable mass.

For now, the 2027 Dodge Charger Super Bee looks like the most convincing argument yet for the Sixpack-powered Charger.

It may not have a Hemi, but at least Dodge gave us something more interesting to discuss than the number of cylinders.
