First generation Sierra Stereo Wiring Diagram (1999–2006)
One of the earlier models of Sierra shared quite a bit in common with the Silverado. Because of this similarity, the Sierra came with two versions in this early model. These versions are often referred to as the C1500 Sierra or the C2500 Sierra, and there’s differences as far as the Sierra stereo wiring diagram is concerned.
These early GMC Sierra stereos are based on a double DIN size. You can of course use a single DIN stereo, however you will need an install kit. These kits will come with the proper mounting hardware and allows you to bolt in a single DIN Sierra radio. Of course if you are opting for a dual DIN navigation system or DVD player in your GMC Sierra, no install kit is needed. You can mount the new Sierra stereo using the old factory mount rails and hardware.
For people who happen to own a C1500 GMC Sierra, there are a few differences. These include the GMC Sierra stereo ground wire, which is black with a white stripe in it, compared to the yellow wire. Your Sierra stereo ground wire is also brown now instead of the black, so if you pull out your stereo and see these primary speaker wires instead, use this guide.

As you notice the speaker wires remain largely unchanged. However there is a change to the Sierra stereo wiring diagram when it comes to the Sierra antenna trigger wire. This trigger wire is pink in the C1500 series of Sierra, and you’ll need this if you are retaining the power antenna.
The last stereo wiring to worry about in your C1500 GMC Sierra is the switched 12 volt wire. Unfortunately, like the Silverado the Sierra doesn’t have this wire. For switched power, you need to tap into the steering column and go off the ignition switch in your Sierra.
Second generation Sierra Stereo Wiring Diagram (2007–2013)
This generation of GMC truck has got a lot of value, because stereos from any other year range of Chevy / GMC truck or SUV will fit just fine. Again based on a double DIN based Sierra stereo, you’ll be able to get away with upgrading with just a mounting kit upgrade. Of course when you are looking to upgrade your stereo, you’ll need to remove the Sierra center console to access the Sierra stereo wires.
Much like the previous Sierra models, you’ll need an install kit to mount your single DIN stereo. Another popular upgrade is to take the navigation system from a Acadia or Saturn Outlook, as they share the same stereo connectors.

There’s differences between the premium model Sierra from this year generation when it comes to the factory subwoofer. This Sierra speaker is powered by the Sierra amplifier, so make sure to bypass this when upgrading your Sierra stereo.

Third generation Sierra Stereo Wiring Diagram (2014–present)
Because the latest Sierra includes a wide range of infotainment features, you may need additional parts when upgrading this generation of GMC Sierra. If you want to ditch the factory navigation or infotainment system, you’ll need a stereo dongle to bypass these features. Failure to install the right bypass could cause problems like your steering wheel Sierra stereo controls may not work, or the volume may be off.
Most aftermarket Sierra stereos will require a new install kit or stereo mounting kit. This allows you to eliminate the excess space around your factory stereo or head unit in your GMC Sierra.

If you own a GMC Sierra with a navigation system already, installing an aftermarket stereo is a little easier. Most aftermarket dual DIN setups will allow you to bolt up the factory Sierra mounting brackets for your radio. If you don’t have a navigation system equipped Sierra, there’s going to be some heavy modification required. Because you don’t have a infotainment screen here, you won’t need the standard Park Assist bypass or MyLink disable you would in the traditional truck.
