What Does P0090 Mean?
Modern engines use electronically controlled fuel pressure.
Instead of relying entirely on springs and vacuum diaphragms like older vehicles, today’s systems continuously adjust pressure using an electronically controlled fuel pressure regulator or fuel metering valve.
The PCM constantly calculates ideal fuel pressure based on:
- Engine RPM
- Load
- Throttle position
- Boost pressure
- Coolant temperature

The PCM then sends an electrical command to the regulator.
When the PCM detects that the regulator control circuit is not responding as expected, it stores P0090.
