Electric cars have automakers scrambling to get ahead of the competition, with huge ramifications for those who get left behind. With manufacturers dumping huge amounts of resources into research and development, it’s not hard to see the evolution of the modern vehicle. With so much focus on developing new technology, there’s no shortage of challengers throwing their card in the “Coolest Electric Cars” hat.

Although Tesla’s Model S is known for its impressive performance, electric cars aren’t isolated to this market segment. Indeed, it seems like battery-powered electric cars are on the precipice of taking over America’s roads. Wondering what some of the coolest electric cars of the future are? 2019 Audi e-tron – Audi has embraced electric technology from the get-go, even playing a part in the popular Marvel Avengers series of movies. Advancing their flagship luxury SUV, the all-new 2019 Audi E-Tron could change the game.

Between the Q7 and Q5, the Audi E-Tron ushers in a new era for Audi

Five doors, AWD, and a bevy of new technology is what pushes this SUV to the top of our Coolest Electric Cars list. Audi has announced that the new 2019 E-Tron will start at $75,000, with several different trims to be released shortly.

2019 Nissan Leaf e+ – Nissan has been busy with the latest entry in the Leaf lineup. Although the Japanese automaker has hit a few snags in the production and development of the Leaf, the new 2019 Nissan Leaf e+ has arrived.

Nissan claims of distance put the new Leaf range at 226 miles per charge.

Increased battery capacity that provides Nissan with 45% more power puts the Leaf in good position in the sport compact segment. Despite talk of Nissan developing an electric truck, the Leaf still stands to be the flagship electric vehicle in the very near future.

2020 Kia Soul EV – Kia has been busy developing their hatchback, with a larger 64kWh battery pack that promises increased range. Rumors have the sporty Kia Soul checking in around the 225-mile mark, which puts it in the same category as the Chevy Bolt and Nissan Leaf.

2020 Porsche Taycan – There’s no doubting that Porsche has put Tesla directly in their crosshairs with the development of their E-Mission lineup. The new 2020 Taycan is a four-door sports car much in the mold of the Model S.

Porsche estimates power output over 600 horsepower, which could potentially make the Taycan one of the coolest electric cars of 2020.

2019 Tesla Model 3 Base Model – Elon Musk’s entry-level sedan has come with a lot of hype but has had more than it’s fair share of issues. Despite these problems, the $35,000 dollar sedan could still redefine the automotive industry as we know it.

2020 Volkswagen ID – A Volkswagen? Topping our list of coolest electric cars of 2020? I’m as shocked as you are, but on paper, the VW ID is definitely one cool electric vehicle. Emerging from the burning rubble that was the diesel scandal, the new ID is an electric hatchback that boasts an incredible range between 250 and 380 miles.

What’s more Volkswagen has teased a possible crossover SUV spinoff, which could really revive the VW name in the emerging electric car wars.
