Daigo Saito To Pilot 2JZ A90 Supra in D1

One of the most recognized names is building an epic 2JZ A90 Supra to compete in next year’s D1GP, becoming the first 2020 Supra to sport the iconic super engine. Built for the MKIV Supra, the 2JZGTE is easily one of the most popular engine swap choices out there even for engine swap iasts.

Nobody thought it would happen this 2JZ swap would happen so quickly, but when news of the new Supra was announced, everyone thought it. Swapping out the BMW powerplant and supplanting it with the 3.0 liter 2JZGTE from is pure genius, and a testament to how serious Daigo Saito’s team really is.

That’s right, just a few months away from being announced at the Detroit Auto Show, the 2JZ A90 Supra was born. The Supra will be piloted by none other than pro driver Daigo Saito, who will look to task the 2020 Supra against the best drifters in the world next year.

Set to participate in the D1 Grand Prix Professional Series, the 2JZ Supra could definitely set a trend to follow. Saito’s professional team reports that the first test for the A90 Supra will be at the D1GP Shootout in Odaiba, Tokyo. The Monster Energy sponsored event will pit some of the very best new Supras in the world against one another, including but not limited to the Gazoo Racing Supra.

The 2JZ A90 Supra has been stroked out to 3.3 and looks to have a relatively modest target of 800 horsepower. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the 2JZ swapped new Supra to see just how well it performs, but it’s safe to say it will be putting down the horsepower numbers that they are aiming for.
