Harman Pupil Tracking Tech on Display at CES

Staying awake during long drives can be a challenge, especially on long stretches of road like Interstate 5 in California. Driving while drowsy has been a problem for motorists for years now, and Harman recently showed off their solution at the 2016 CES Show. The Harman pupil tracking technology uses in-cabin cameras to analyze the drivers eyes to determine their state of awareness.

This advanced safety feature is still very much on the forefront, but Harman is one of the most progressive companies on the edge of infotainment development. The Harman pupil tracking technology can help drivers realize when they need to pull over and get some rest. The combination of cameras inside your cabin and the advanced Harman algorithm can be adjusted to help alert the driver.

Using their camera system the software recognizes how dilated the eyes of the driver are, and determines their road worthiness. The system is comprised of one camera facing towards the driver without the use of any other bio-metric sensors.

Harman unique proprietary system is engineered to collect the data from the in car cameras and analyze. Combining this data against the safety equipment in your car, the parameters are also configurable and customizable.

This pupil reflex data is used to determine when the driver is tired or too fatigued to drive safely. There are also options that allow mobile devices to put the system into do not disturb mode.

Safety technology like this has been a popular advancement for many automakers for quite some time. Harman’s use of cameras in your cabin has been an extremely bold step forward in this area of safety development. Harman has been taking their technology and pushing forward in regards to car connectivity and safety measures.

Harman has several new technologies on display at the CES show, and their new Harman pupil tracking system is at the forefront of their showcase at the technology show.
