How To Replace a Nissan Sentra MAF Sensor

Your Nissan Sentra MAF Sensor is the primary means of which your Sentra ECU operates and manages your engine’s fuel and ignition. This sensor measures the intake flow rate of the incoming air and reports this to the Nissan ECU. The Sentra MAF Sensor is mounted inside of a Nissan housing that’s part of the intake tract to accurately read this information.

This hot wire style mass air flow sensor reads the air by heating the wire of the sensor to a predefined temperature. As airflow passes through the intake piping and the sensor element, the temperature of the wire lowers accordingly. The more airflow the greater the temperature drop and heat loss. The Nissan ECU reads the air flow by means of the change in voltage and temperature of this wire.

Today I’ll be showing you how to replace your Sentra MAF Sensor in a 2007 Nissan Sentra equipped with a 2.0 liter engine. If you have a trouble code or check engine light on your Sentra dash, now is the time to use a scan tool to properly retrieve the code.

Of course we do have several guides on testing your Nissan Sentra MAF sensor. We’ve got a complete signal testing how-to guide using a 2008 Nissan Sentra here, as well as a 1999 Sentra guide here.

In order to remove the Sentra MAF Sensor housing, you must open your hood and remove the intake tract piping.

How to Replace your Sentra MAF Sensor

Whenever you are working on any electrical component of your vehicle, you should begin by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery. If you don’t have your radio code, it’s a good idea to locate this ahead of time before you yank your Sentra power.

Disconnect your MAF sensor as shown above, and undo the large clamp that secures the recirculating air tube on top of your air intake. Once you remove the large air vacuum hose, you are now free to loosen the clamps on your intake piping.

Now when you have the intake piping removed you can undo the two bolts that secure the Sentra MAF to your Nissan air box. Yank out that old faulty mass air flow sensor and replace it with a new unit and you are ready to rock and roll.

You now know how to install and replace your Nissan Sentra MAF to repair and restore your engine performance. Have any questions about our guide or comments? Leave them for us below and let us know!
