How To Install Megan Camber Arms

The VIP craze has settled down a bit but that still won’t stop many enthusiasts from shoehorning the largest rims possible on their luxury performance vehicle, looking for that ever ‘flush’ look. Unfortunately for vehicles like the Lexus IS300, IS250, LS430 and others do not have the kind of adjustment in back one needs when lowering their vehicle with large rims.

This often leads to many customers driving with extreme negative camber, which is not only inherently dangerous but leads to accelerated tire wear and possible damage to those nice shiny rims. Which brings us to our How To Install Megan Camber Arms article, perfect for bringing back your camber.

As a general rule of thumb, lowering vehicles an inch in height usually results in negative camber of about -.84° degrees. This ratio becomes exponentially higher the more aggressively you lower the vehicle in question.

For example if you lower your vehicle 2 inches, you are looking at about -2.12° degrees. If you lower the vehicle 2.5 inches, you are looking at about -3.5° degrees of negative camber and so on. You can see how quickly things can get out of hand, especially when you are trying to shove 10 or 11 inch wide rims on a car that most likely was not designed to handle such rim widths.

Today we’ll be installing a set of Megan Camber Arms for a 2006 Lexus LS430 part number MRS-LX-0410 in our How To Install Megan Camber Arms writeup.

You will first be undoing the rear sway bar endlink, shown in the orange circle above, make sure to take off this nut and push the spherical end link up and away so that you can completely remove your lower arm.

Next undo the bolt and nut that secures the lower arm to your subframe, and then there’s only one nut left and that’s the one on the rear wheel hub and spindle.

Open up your Megan box and get all the hardware out and ready, if you also installing an aftermarket sway bar or additional modifications, now is the time to get them ready.

Make sure to get the orientation of the subframe bolt correct, as this bolt is centric and must be installed correctly in order for your alignment tech to properly align your car.

Don’t forget to double check all of your bolts and nuts to ensure that you have properly torqued them down to spec. Shown above is the turnbuckle your alignment tech will be working on, make sure this turnbuckle is tightened and you are somewhat close to your wheels being straight if you plan on driving to an alignment shop nearby.
