EDFC Active Just May Change the Game

As part of our 2014 New Year’s Countdown, we’ll be looking back at some of the industry’s hottest products this past year that will help take the new year to another level. And how better to kick off our countdown than a look back at TEIN’s EDFC, the unit that took the aftermarket industry by storm over 10 years ago and now about to revolutionize suspension and damper adjustments again.

The EDFC has long been a great tool to provide the end user with convenience and adjustments on the fly to their performance machine by way of TEIN’s revolutionary stepper motor technology.

We’ve got a few writeups on how to install this unit, and it’s flexibility when coupled with TEIN’s coilover lineup from the SS-P, to the TEIN FLEX and much more. Just when we think that this product couldn’t possibly get any better, TEIN’s engineers outdo themselves with the new EDFC ACTIVE.

 

The EDFC Active raises the bar on aftermarket performance and also allows for automatic adjustments on the fly via TEIN’s wireless motor driver units! That’s right! no more running the wires back through the vehicle’s bulkhead and finagling with the removal of rear seats and punching holes in the firewall, TEIN ACTIVE is now wireless!

And that’s the least of the improvements to the TEIN ACTIVE unit, as TEIN raises the bar with the EDFC ACTIVE’s G-Force sensor that automatically makes real-time adjustments for vehicle pitch, whether you are acccelerating or braking!

 

You can also dictate to the EDFC ACTIVE to preset adjustments to damping on predetermined click settings for every 0.2g increments. What this means is there is a direct change to the damping adjustments of your TEIN coilovers based on the amount of g forces you are pulling under whatever conditions you can imagine!

An EDFC switch is connected with the key position of the vehicle, the same as in general car audio components. If the EDFC power switch is continuously turned on, the EDFC can store in memory the click position setting when the driver gets out of the car and the key switch is turned off.

TEIN’s damping-force-control-type shock absorbers normally have a built in damping force control function for 16 levels. But the EDFC Active’s stepper motors and unit take this function to a new level, providing 32 way and 64 way adjustability depending on the coilover of choice.

Below is the EDFC Active Controller which governs all functions for the operation of your stepper motors and your coilover damping. As this unit uses the user-preset damping settings for each incremental G-Force load, you can maximize the performance of this unit by incorporating the optional GPS kit.

 

 

Since the damping force can be manually controlled with ease to meet different situations, the driver can now enjoy variations in the suspension setting without having to get out and open their hood or trunk.

As technology and performance continue to blur the lines on what is possible and what isn’t possible in a performance vehicle, we are looking forward to the day when none of us have to ever get out of our car to adjust anything!
