Saying Goodbye to the Accord

Honda has officially discontinued their long standing luxury sedan Honda Accord in select countries, much to the chagrin of Honda fans the world over. In accordance with their discontinuation of the Civic earlier in the year, Honda is continuing the direction of the company with focusing on the smaller consumer compacts by saying goodbye to two of it’s longest tenured models.

With dwindling sales numbers and a luxury sedan that seemed to be ballooning, Honda lowers the axe on the Accord having sold just 215 units from June of 2013 to November. With increasing price tags that put the Accord near the price points of such luxury sedans like the BMW and Mercedes Benz counterparts, and the economy and consumers looking for cheaper cars, Honda scuttled the Accord.
Replacing the Accord is the bite sized crossover named the Honda Vezel, and it will share the same 1.5L engine thats found in the Honda Fit. And that news has the automotive rumor mill cranking already, connecting the new Turbo Honda series of motors and the newly minted Honda Vezel.
Could the Honda Vezel arrive to the US with the 2.0 liter Earth Dreams turbo motor?
Along with the Nissan Juke, it appears as though US enthusiasts are in for a fresh influx of sporty-SUV-crossovers that blend speed, comfort and practicality against an ever decreasing price tag.
While the official Honda presser claims the new Vezel blends the dynamic components of a SUV, the elegance of a coupe and functionality of minivan together, we wonder what kind of following the Vezel will take here in the US.

According to Carscoops, the Vezel will come in both hybrid and normal gasoline versions in Japan, where the crossover already has an aftermarket kit from Honda featuring large wheels, side skirts and a distinctive grille. However it’s just a matter of time before the aftermarket gets their hands on the car, providing custom suspension, interior and exterior pieces and of course if the engine comes as an Earth Dreams motor, the skys the limit.

What do you think about the new Honda Vezel?
