Rumor Mill : A 600hp Nissan GT-R?

Nissan is taking their Skyline GT-R to new levels in 2014 with the announcement that there will be a retuned VR38DETT under the hood of the latest GT-R, bumping up power to 600 hp without any sacrifices to fuel economy!

On the heels of the Nissan-Williams (Williams Formula 1 Grand Prix Holdings) team up, Nismo looks to be raising the bar for their Japanese Supercar. While the exact details of the collaboration with the nine-time Formula 1 champion Williams is still unclear, Nismo seems to be positioning themselves to expand on their hybrid racing technology.

As F1 teams have been using KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) where braking energy is stored, Williams is among the only ones developing KERS where the energy is stored in a flywheel instead of a battery (much like the Porsche 911 GT3 Hybrid and the Audi R18 e-tron).

The president of Nismo, Mr. Miyatani stated that he looks forward to working with Williams because it has shown the ability to incorporate its KERS technology into road cars. He is talking about the C-X75 supercar concept that Williams and Jaguar unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Could a new hybrid race GT-R be on the horizon sometime soon? It’s definitely a possibility, but the newest addition to the Skyline legacy will have only 300 units produced and will make it’s debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later this winter.
