Rumor Mill : Turbo Honda on the Horizon??

It hasn’t been that long since Honda dominated the sport compact scene, powered by the relatively low cost platforms of the Civic and Integra. Combine that with the diverse and technologically-ahead-of it’s time VTEC powered motors, and you had a perfect recipe for young enthusiasts to love.

Times have changed with Honda moving it’s focus away from the “sport” brand that the company worked hard to carve out for itself, after all FWD based platforms don’t always inspire confidence or respect from many enthusiasts. And in doing so, the recent iterations of the Civic, RSX, and CRZ have been less than popular with the modding community, leading some to claim that Honda didn’t want it’s cars modified, associated ( or stolen ) with the image of aftermarket performance.

Well things may be getting better for stateside Honda fans, with rumors from GT Channel reported yesterday that Honda may be incorporating the turbocharged Civic Type R powerplant under the CR-Z hood.

According to the report, Honda has a 1.5L- 4 cylinder engine producing 221 turbocharged ponies mated to a seven speed dual clutch transmission that is combined with the Honda Hybrid Electric Motor.

Could this rejuvenate the long lasting legacy of sport compact performance for Honda? Stay tuned!
