Default HKS Catback Install on a Nissan 240SX

HKS Catback Install on a Nissan 240SX

As with all of our writeups, please use extreme caution when modding your car. If you are not familiar or mechanically inclined, take your car to someone that is.

Tools you will need to install the catback onto your RX-7 :
  • Penetrating Oil / Blast Away - Not required
  • 14mm socket
  • 17mm socket
  • 19mm Socket
  • Crowbar
First secure the car on a lift / jack / jackstands, then begin spraying the old nuts and bolts with some sort of Penetrating Oil to assist in taking off the stock nuts.

Then we take out our exhaust and lay the midpipe and rear section out neatly.

Take a look directly after the cat, there is a 3 bolt flange with 14mm bolts.

Spray these down with a penetrating oil of some sort, we prefer Blast Away by Dyson Oils.

Undo the midpipe / rear canister section from the cat

Undo the midpipe rubber grommet mount held on by a 12mm

Undo the rear mount grommet, yet another 12mm

Using the crowbar, undo the last rear muffler hangars behind the rear bumper skin.

Now drop your stock catback onto the ground as a whole. Here is a comparison shot next to our upgraded HKS 240SX exhaust

A comparison shot of the midpipe

Mount the HKS midpipe onto the stock cat and hang it from the stock grommet locations by utilizing the same 12mm you removed before. Bolt the midpipe back up to the stock cat.

Mount the HKS rear canister exhaust section by the stock grommet location under the rear bumper skin.

Now bolt the rear exhaust section and midpipe together and use the HKS supplied exhaust gasket.

Now double check all your bolts and grommets, making sure everything is tight. Start the car and listen for any exhaust leaks, if there are some, undo and redo your bolts to tighten up your piping.

You are now done! enjoy your new 240SX HKS Catback!
