Default APEXi N1 Catback Install on a 3g RX7

As with all of our writeups, please use extreme caution when modding your car. If you are not familiar or mechanically inclined, take your car to someone that is.

Tools you will need to install the catback onto your RX-7 :
  • Penetrating Oil / Blast Away - Not required
  • 14mm socket
  • 17mm socket
First secure the car on a lift / jack / jackstands, then begin spraying the old nuts and bolts with some sort of Penetrating Oil to assist in taking off the stock nuts.

We like to use Blast Away, made by Syngeryn Performance Oils

Here we see the stock midpipe / downpipe meet at the catback section

There are 3 hangers on the stock exhaust, one on the midpipe, and 2 on the rear canister.

Drop the middle hanger, and the 2 bolts that hold the cat / downpipe section onto the catback, let the exhaust hang from the downpipe and begin unpacking your catback, for this install we are putting in a Apexi N1

Begin spraying and rear canister hanger mount shown below. Remove the 2 12mm nuts on the passenger side of the canister holding the hanger in place, then drop the other side and pull the exhaust off.

Our vehicle had spacer gaps in the hangers, make sure to keep these if you want to reuse your rubber hangers.

Drop the entire stock catback as an entire assembly. Then begin bolting up your new catback!

We recommend reusing the spacer gaps that are inserted into the hangers, not doing this will cause the catback to sag a little. Make sure everything is tight and there are no exhaust leaks and you are ready to enjoy your new catback!
