Default Low carb diets?

I'm kind of a bigger guy, about 5'11, and 235lbs.

I want to drop about 35 lbs and not sure of the best way to do it. I'm pretty active, but can't seem to keep my weight down, and I don't think I eat that bad.

What do you guys think of low carb diets? They seem to work, but I keep hearing about all these speculated problems down the line.

Anyone actually been on one?

calories used has to be greater than calories consumed. that's what it comes down to. so you either have to exercise more or eat less. that's all.

Low carb diets work, mainly for the reason drewl said...

they really restrict your caloric intake, since carbs is what has the most calories

the body needs carbs, don't take them away completely, but do eat less bleached carbs and sugars

Carbs are good. It all depends on how much you're taking in. If you want to lose weight you have to raise your metabolism. One way to do so is eat more...yes more. Just be aware of what you're taking in. Exercise regularly. You want to use less weight and high reps. Also when doing cardio you want to use less resistance and try to do as many miles as you can. PM me if you want more info.

Well friends, I have read the other similar questions posted on this subject and also done some additional research, with so many different answers its starting to bother me. Yes, I have done the low-carb thing before and lost 13 pounds but gained it back. Now this time i've lost 5 in about a week. I am eating lots of fruit, vegetables, and cheese. Also, I eat pork, eggs, chicken hamburger meat, etc. and I feel fine. Please give me your opinion on low-carb diets and how I can improve or if I am doing something wrong?

You're going about it the right way. it's about how much you take in as well as what you take in. I'm not a big fan of low carb diets because you can't keep up with that diet for the rest of your life. It's great if you want to lose weight fast for a summer vacation but not good for the long term. Your body needs carbs. Lower your carb intake to a reasonable amount and continue to eat your fruits, veges, protein and also take in some nuts. Watch your calories and exercise exercise exercise

Ughh diets are not for me I just need to get active. I lost about 65 lbs in 4 weeks but I wouldn't do it the same way I did. I put some of it back on but it took about 3 years.

Chris has the right idea. Just stay active, stay away from fast food, sweets and junk food. complex carbs are very good for you(potatoes, rice, grains, etc.) it's all the crap that gets put on them that's bad. Here's what works for me: grill, bake or steam your food(never fry) don't ruin your carbs with butter, sour cream,or fatty sauces. eat only lean cuts of meat, animal fat is the highest source of calories out there. I only drink 1% or skim milk. Other than that I do not limit how much I eat of fresh fruit or vegetables. never starve yourself, eat when your hungry. remember do the things that can permanently change your lifestyle, otherwise whatever weight you lose will come back plus some.

Diets be it of any form are just not made for me. I tried two different types of diets one of which had the inclusion of this low carb one but in the end my body could not take it anymore and I had to spend a lot of time to get back to normal, thats one reason I prefer to remain normal whatever be the circumstance and the mantra to a fit body for me is working out hard and nothing else.
