i gutted my car once... took out the seats, pulled out the subs, spare tire, i only ran 1/2 tank off gas down to as low as possible. it lasted for a month. i couldnt stand it. put everything back in. i saw a small effect if any. i just spun more w/ no weight over rear axles. i say stick w/ taking out the subs and back seats. then just add a good power adder.

Alright, well what is the best thing to mold with?
And should I reinforce it?

depends on how you want it done. you wont need much support after its done fiberglass alone is some strong stuff. do a google search on it. and heres a tip that you may not find on the internet, if you got large flat surfaces in your design use mdf board.

what are you making out of fiberglass? i made a badass ram air intake scoop out of fiberglass and it works quite well. i can give you some pointers on materials to use and how to shape.

I made a gauge pod for my center councel out of fiberglass, and yeah it ended up looking like ass...it isn't even CLOSE to smooth, and I sanded for hours. What exactly do you think I should do?

And my next step is...I want subs, or at least one (quality over quantity) but with a car that weighs 2700lbs Every lbs counts...So I want to fiberglass at least one into my wheel well.

well did you add fiberglass to an exsisting part, or make that whole peice from scratch? i'm guessing you added fiberglass to an existing part since that would be easier.

Yeah, It would look 10 times worse than it does if I made it from scratch. I just made a mold for the gauges, then added some bondo for filler, then fiberglassed over everything.

well what do you want to do, fix that piece or start over? it don't look to bad as long as everything looks lined up when you put the guages in, the rest can be fixed. thats the nice thing about fiberglass, if you need to fill low spots you can use epoxy or resin to fill, then sand it smooth again. be careful using bondo, , your better off using epoxy/fiberglass mix or resin/fiberglass mix. bondo isn't as strong and can crack, ruining your whole project. epoxy cost more but is easier to use because it dries faster and bonds with everything almost.

so you gonna try and fix it or nix it?

if you remove to much stuff your car will sound like a junker, it will go faster, but will be more anoying for everyday cruising, you'll here every little sound from the road and every little squeak of the body. plus i wont make my car lighter because it's always snow and ice here. need some weight to dig in.

You live in a HORRIBLE place to have a tuner then. The taures is a pretty heavy car isn't it?

3350lbs to be exact. i have the luxury model (SEL) however, airbags all around and all the goodies, or factory crap as i like to call it. but, i haven't been beat by anything yet, of coarse, i know not to race against mustangs or turboed cars. I could probably drop a good 200-300lbs but its an around town car more than a racer so i'll keep the 90lb sound system and the heavy seats, airbags, and sound deadening materials for now. right now i'm concentrating on the engine and the style.

Eh, actually the stangs aren't as fast as you'd think, they're too heavy. V8 doesn't mean anything, 300hp is alot, but not when you're dealing with 3600lbs. I'm guessing you're going for nice clean car that you can also get sportyness out of? I definatley say if that's what you're going for then just boost hp, don't reducee weight, especially with your icey roads. I live up by chicago and get some ice, but not too much and my car weighs in around 2700lbs stock, but when we do get ice, it blows.
