Parts needed : x1 Wire strippers / Cutter x1 Solder Gun / Iron x1 Solder x1 Electric tape 10mm ratchet We are installing a VAFC II into a 2000 Honda Prelude. You should first disconnect the positive battery terminal, as to prevent damage to any electronics or sensors in your vehicle currently. We always like to mount our units first, you will see here that we've mounted it under the radio bracket in the center console.
![]() Next, remove the passenger side kick panel, as shown below : ![]() Then pull out the car mat and pull back the carpet underneath, as shown here : ![]() There are 4 mounting 10mm nuts that hold the ECU plate and ECU to the chassis, undo these 10mm nuts, and lift up on the ECU plate, and unplug the 4 connections from the ECU itself : ![]() We propped the plate and ECU up, since our wiring has to do with the harness side itself. You can choose to remove the ECU if you wish, its a large plate and we just leave it propped up. Next locate the power wire, the upper right hand most wire on the first plug to the ECU from left to right. This wire is shown here : ![]() There are 2 power connections on the VAFC, tap them into the power wire on the ECU, and put them about 1 inch apart from each other as shown in the next picture. Solder all connections as shown. Now locate the brown ground wire, which should be 2 wires to the left of the power wire. Located here : ![]() There are 2 ground connections that should go to the brown ground wire on your ECU harness ![]() Make sure that the brown and the black connections are tapped into the ground wire an inch apart, and that the brown wire is closest to the ECU. Solder all connections as shown ![]() Next, locate the VTEC wire, the fourth wire from the upmost right hand corner of the first plug, this is the green wire, found in this picture : ![]() You must cut this wire in half, make sure you leave enough slack to work with on both sides. APexi provides bullet connectors for this connection. We prefer reliability and soldered ours in. The purple wire goes to the ECU side, the Pink wire goes to the harness side, as shown here : ![]() Solder connections as shown ![]() Next, locate the RPM ECU wire, and tap the green VAFC wire into this wire. Make sure and solder this connection, as with all connections. The wire to tap the green wire into is shown below: ![]() Now locate the Throttle wire, located on the right hand most plug off the ECU, the gray VAFC wire taps into this wire. Make sure and solder this connection, as with all connections. The wire to tap the gray wire into is shown below : ![]() Next, locate the Pressure wire, this is the also part of the right hand most plug off the ECU. The wire is shown below : ![]() Now, you must cut the pressure wire, as you did the VTEC wire. The yellow VAFC wire goes to the ECU, while the white wire goes to the harness side. Again, we did without the bullet connections, and just soldered these bad boys in. Below is a picture of the connection : ![]() Now, your wiring is complete! Tape up the excess unused wires, and reconnect them to the ECU. Make sure to bolt the ECU and the ECU mounting plate back down to your chassis firmly, and put back your rugs, mats, etc. ![]() Dont forget your passsenger side kick panel ![]() We have also included the wiring diagram ![]() and ecu pinouts for your installation ease: ![]() You have now installed your VAFC into your Prelude! Congratulations! |
