Ok, I really don't much about this stuff, but here is my question. I have an 07 Corolla S, I want to lower it. I want to use 17" Rims and as much rubber as possible for the tires. I live in the city with tons of extremely large speed bumps and extremely deeeeep dips. The roads are almost horrible for most small trucks. So I need an idea of how low I should go with to make 17's look good, but still have just enough clearence for the terrain. I was thinking maybe 1.5" or somewhere around that number.

It's not just the 17s, but it's also the width. If you go too wide, it will rub if you lower it. I would put on the 17s first, take it to a shop, and ask them what they recommend.
I like the Tein STechs. They lower the car perfectly, and not too expensive. Check on pro street for how much stechs lower a corolla... |

stick on the 17's then simply measure how much fender well gap u have then go from there.

I lowered my o4 corolla 1.5" put 15" kosei k1's with 195 55 r15 kumo ecsta supra's and the gap looks great but I do have problems on alot of speed bumps and dips. I have to go real slow and at a slight angle onver the speed bumps and slow through the dips. Bottoming out is no fun.

well you want to make sure when you get 17s that the over all height of the tire and wheel is the same as your stock size is so that your speeometer stays as close to accurate as possible for example my stock tire size is 185/65 15 so from the ground to the top of the tire (diameter) is 24.47 and my 17s are 215/40 17 diameter on them is 23.77 so only .7" difference. If you are currently on 195/65 15s I would upgrade to 205/50 17. but it your stock is 195/55 16 then go with 225/45 17. after that look at a lowering height if you still want it
