Default car broke

so i was comeing home from school this friday and i was going a considerable speed and started to race a kid from my auto tech class so i dropped it into l2 and it kinda sounded wierd but my car does that so we were off and i passed him doing about a buck fifteen and then i pulled into some drive way in the country and went to reverse out that worked fine but once i put it in drive i was still going in reverse and every gear i put it in was reverse so i was kinda thinking that my shifter linkege broke and is now stuck in reverse anyone else think im right and if so how hard is this going to be to fix??

just wondering, why are you racing to a "buck fifteen" in a stock neon?
does it even go to 115 before the governor kicks in?

thats why i asked why hes going that fast in a stock neon lol
couple of friends have neons....at 60 mph the wheel jerks like all hell and they are so bumpy
i havnt gone over like 75 in my suby yet...i haven't had a chance to take it on the freeway
but even doing 115 in that, for me, is a little much
let alone a NEON which is STOCK
sorry, just my .02

to answer the OP's question, it could either be your transmission as a whole that blew up, or the shifter linkage. you just done know till you put it under the knife.

if you havent ever worked on a car before, a transmission is a difficult task to tackle. i wouldnt advise it unless you really know what youre doing.

I'm sure there was a little exageration in the mile per hour department but even so, chances are it's the tranny itself. You should probably SLOW DOWN...for the sake of the people around you.

If you are rolling in a manual tranny, maybe you killed your syncro's????

do automatics have synchros?
yeah, since i still don't study transmission i'm not sure of parts of it.but if the linkage broke that means it won't switch gears right?(but stay on it's current gear?)

just one question, ohio racer, can you update us on what is going on now, if you figured out what was wrong, is the problem fixed?

Automatics don't have syncros... Syncros are just copper rings that helps make your shifts smooth.
