Default For the record - Supercharger swap on 3800 (gm)

I am recording this for future reference -

Recently, my supercharger on my 1993 Buick started making allot of noise. I decided to replace it (having never worked with Eaton chargers.) I found a guy who had one off of a 1994 SSEI. After swapping them the engine was leaking a huge amount of antifreeze through the blower.

So, my first thought was that the gasket between the engine and the blower was not sealing correctly. So, I pulled the blower off, and replaced the gasket with a new one. After this, and reinstalling the blower, the same problem exsisted.

I had been told that a 1994 charger will not work with a 1993 engine. So, I pulled the blower off and was getting ready to swap the old one back on to hold me over until I could get a new 1993 charger. I noticed at this point that the throttle body on the 1994 was much (12mm) larger than the throttle body on the 1993 blower. And, that a coolant passage was machined into the throttle body (probably to reduce throttle ice.)

My issue was that I was using a 1994 blower, and a 1993 throttle body. Coolant was leaking through the space between the throttle body and the blower, and then of course going right into the engine.

After getting a new throttle body (for a 1994) and a gasket for a 1996 454 (7.4 L) truck engine, which is the gasket you need I'm not kidding, the coolant leak problem was fixed.

Just in case anyone ever searches for this problem!

Did you see any difference powerwise between the 94 and the 93? Probably better throttle response with a 12mm bigger t-body?
