Default Crx Intercooler Mount Walkthrough

Hey Im Alex.
I just did my intercooler mount 4 days ago so Im gonna do a walkthrough for ya!
WARNING: READ THE WHOLE THING BEFORE YOU START THE PROCESS

Ok parts ya need:
Intercooler kit
Intercooler mounts/brakets (i had brakets)
2 bolts
2 nuts

Tools ya need:
Phillips screw driver
10mm 15mm (just have a set...) wrenches and sockets
Drill and drill bits.
Possibly a drill press

Step 1:Ok start by unscrewing the turn signal corner lights (ones next to the headlights). They will have 2 long phillips screws in them.

Step 2: Unscrew the turn signal lights in the bumper and unplug them and remove them

Step 3: Get under the car and unscrew the 4 or 6 10mm bolts that hold the bumper to the skid plate

Step 4: Unscrew the phillips screws (5) on the top of the bumper. One under each turn signal corner lights and 3 near the top of the radiator

Brace yourself because the bumper might fall off

You should see a black peace of metal once you take the bumper off that kinda looks like a bumper; thats what we are gonna bolt it to.

Side step: If you haven't already, remove this thing that is under the airbox. I dont know what the purpose of it is. I think its an air bladder. but if you have an after market air intake, you dont need it. and im pretty sure the stock air intake doesnt need it either. (correct me if im wrong) Remove it by taking the obvious bolt and the one that is behind the bladder. Its hidden but grab a light and pull hard on the bladder to see where it is. I believe its a 10mm but dont quote me

Step 5: Have a friend hold the intercooler up to the car and use a paint pen to make where you want to drill the bolt holes

note: have the in and out air pipes connected to the intercooler so you know that they will line up with the holes in the car to the intake and from the exhaust

Step 6: Remove the black bumper brace

Step 7: Get that drill out and some eye protection! Depending on what size bolt you used, this was by far the hardest part. Im not sure what this thing is made of, possibly solid diamond, but this guy is a mother to drill threw. I started with the smallest bit I could find and worked my way up. I got threw 2 bits and the bits stopped working. The drill stalled and wouldnt drill any more. Luckily I had the master minds at my community college to help. We took it to the drill press. and we made it threw! But you might be able to get threw with a decent drill.

Step 8: Get the bolts and the brackets and put them on. This seems hard because of the back of the bumper brace but it is possible. Be inovative!

Thats basically it! Its pretty easy. If you look at my pictures, you will see some pictures of the "operation". I had to cut up my bumper pretty bad! but it looks freakin sweet. Im getting looks and alot of race invites. Too bad I dont have my turbo in yet...

THANKS for reading! please comment if Im wrong on anything or theres a better way.

good detail, you can run out of room quick on a crx. we did a neat little trick on a 90ef hatch, we could not find a thick radiator that was narrow enough for B-16 gt35 and large piping. we took an aluminum radiator cut a couple of inches off each side and cut and welded the upper and lower tanks to fit the new width. a friend saw it and we did the same for his boosted crx, living in north carolina it really pays off in the summer. if things get to tight when you install turbo set up it is not to difficult for a decent welder to accomplish. good luck with the car i love the crx cars.
