so i have a 89 crx si. its got a non vtec d16 in it. i am looking to buy a vtec engine (b16) in the future and i wanted to know what to expect when doing the swap. things like rewiring, and trouble areas with this kind of swap.
thanks

Alex, the swap you are talking about is called the "mini-me" what questions can I answer for you? This is a fairly common swap and can give you about 10-25 hp depending on what else you do. Cost is about 200 dollars if you know what you are doing and shopping around.

that could be it 89 may be a bit old. just threw me off someone talking about having an si and "wanting" vtec.. at least it is fuel intected. I used to have an 87 civic and it was a carb but it ran great could go over 120 mph in it wasnt the best on accelerating but lasted a long time until i blew the engine in the mohave desert doing 110 in the summer

Vtec is better in some aspects but in others it isn't . I have been thinking about putting the f22b1 vtec head in place of my none vtec head but may not do it the compression is higher and dont really the the fact it has an internal coil on it. do your research and make sure that the vtec fits in with your future plans for the car or you are just throwing money away if you dont know why you want vtec
